Dick Whittington runs at the Theatre Royal from 20 November 2026 to 17 January 2027. The same seat costs £40 on a January morning and £66 on Boxing Day.
This year’s Theatre Royal pantomime is Dick Whittington, and it runs from Friday 20 November 2026 to Sunday 17 January 2027. That is 89 performances across nine weeks, which is a long panto by any standard.
It is a Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds production, written by Chris Hannon and directed by Owen Calvert-Lyons, running 2 hours 20 minutes including the interval, and billed as suitable for all ages.
The price swings by £26 depending which day you pick
The theatre prices this one dynamically, and the spread is wide. Standard tickets run from £15 to £69 across the run. The band C seat is £15 at almost every performance; it is the top of the ladder that moves.
| When | Top band, typically |
|---|---|
| Weekday mornings and afternoons, November and January | £40.00 |
| Weekday evenings | £40.00 to £41.50 |
| Weekends through the run | £55.00 to £61.00 |
| Christmas week and the week after | £55.00 to £66.00 |
| Christmas Eve, 2.30pm | £66.00 |
| Boxing Day, 3pm | £66.00 |
| Gala performance, Sunday 6 December, 2pm | £25.00 to £69.00 |
The pattern is simple once you see it. A weekday morning in January is the cheapest way in and a Christmas week matinee is the dearest, for the same show in the same seat. If price is what decides it, book Wednesday to Friday in January.
The Gala on Sunday 6 December has doors at 1pm rather than the usual, and the ticket price covers an ice cream, a programme, a goodie bag for children and pre-show drinks. That is what the £69 buys, and why the cheapest Gala seat is £25 rather than £15.
The under-21 deal is only on four nights, and one date on the theatre’s own page is wrong
Four Family Saver performances carry an Under 21 price band. On those nights every band, premium included, costs £15 for anyone under 21. On every other performance there is no under-21 band at all, and a young person pays the standard price for whichever seat they sit in.
The theatre’s show page lists them as Wed 25 Nov 7pm, Tue 8 Dec 7pm, Wed 6 Jan 7pm and “Wed 14 Jan” 7pm. The last of those cannot be right: 14 January 2027 is a Thursday.
The booking system settles it. The Under 21 band is loaded on:
- Wednesday 25 November, 7pm
- Tuesday 8 December, 7pm
- Wednesday 6 January, 7pm
- Wednesday 13 January, 7pm
If you were planning to take a teenager on the 14th for £15, book the 13th.
There is also a two-for-one offer on band C seats, sponsored by Treatt: put two band C seats in the basket and enter the promo code TREAT241. The theatre says numbers are limited.

One warning on that list. The captioned performance on Tuesday 15 December at 7pm is already sold out. If you need captions and the evening slot, the 12 December, 28 December and 14 January evenings are the remaining ones.
What has already gone
Two performances are sold out as things stand: the opening night, Friday 20 November at 7pm, and Tuesday 15 December at 7pm. A further handful are showing “last few”, including Tuesday 24 November 10.30am, Friday 4 December 10.30am, Thursday 10 December 10.30am, Wednesday 16 December 10.30am, Saturday 19 December 2pm, Saturday 2 January 3pm and Friday 8 January 10.30am.
Twenty of the 89 performances are schools shows, mostly the 10.30am weekday slots, which is why so many of the morning dates thin out early.
Getting there and parking after the show
The Theatre Royal is on Westgate Street, IP33 1QR. An evening performance starting at 7pm and running 2 hours 20 minutes puts you back on the street around 9.30pm, which rules out two of the nearest car parks:
- The Arc-Cattlemarket underground level locks at 6pm. Its surface parking, 648 spaces, does not. The lock-in number is 01284 763252.
- Parkway surface locks at 6.30pm.
Ram Meadow is the safe one for an evening show: entry closes at 10pm but you can drive out at any time, and it is £3.50 all day. Olding Road is free from 3.30pm on weekdays and 7am at weekends, and stays open until 11pm. Full tariffs are on our parking page.
Matinees are a different problem, because the town is at its busiest on Christmas market days. Our Christmas markets page has those dates, and our roadworks and travel page tracks anything dug up on the approaches.
